Welcome to the kinder mind podcast, where we're devoted to opening up conversations and destigmatizing mental health. We'll bring you interviews with practitioners in the field of mental health, researchers uncovering new knowledge and best practices for treating mental health disorders, and individuals sharing their mental health journey. Hi, I'm Dr Elizabeth Barlow. I really wanted to start this podcast so that I could connect you with practitioners in the field of mental health to really talk about the specializations that are important to them and the great groundbreaking work that they're doing every day working with clients who are experiencing mental health disorders. I also wanted to bring current research and best practices to the forefront to talk about the expansion of knowledge in the mental health field. I started kinder mind out of a need that I saw that existed for provisionally licensed mental health providers and practicum student providers when I was completing my practicum experience on my journey to becoming a mental health provider, there weren't a lot of opportunities out there to work with clients directly and get that valuable experience, and I experienced the same challenge once I graduated and I got my provisional license. It was really hard to find an opportunity where I could work with clients face to face, get that experience and continue following my passion and helping. Kinder mind offers the opportunity for these provisionally licensed providers and practicum intern providers to work directly with a high qualified supervisor to provide those services to clients and expand our reach, meeting the need of this mental health crisis that we're currently in and have been in for some time.
Speaker 1:Through this podcast, I hope to really bring new light to the conversations about what individuals throughout the country are seeing and experiencing every day when it comes to mental health. We know that by talking we feel a sense of more connectedness to each other and it really helps to normalize that, whatever you're going through with your mental health, you're not alone. There are others out there that are experiencing either the same type of challenges or challenges of their own, even if they're different. As humans, we need to feel connected. Our mental health is the lowest when we lack that sense of connectedness, when we isolate, when we don't feel understood or supported by other human beings. So by continuing to have conversations and instilling a community of caring among each other, our families, our friendships, our communities, I feel we will one day break the stigma of mental health, mental illness, mental disorders and better prepare ourselves for resilience and connection and supportiveness of others.
